Last updated: 2023-05-01

Effective Date: 01.05.2023

1. General Information

1.1 Operating Hours

Our operational hours for vehicle collections and deliveries are from Monday to Friday, between 08:30 and 16:00. We understand that certain circumstances may require services beyond these hours, and we are open to negotiating overtime labor rates to accommodate your needs.

1.2 Turnaround Time

Upon acceptance of the quote, please allow us a turnaround time of max 7 working days for the transportation of your vehicle. We strive to deliver efficient and timely services.

1.3 Vehicle Size Restrictions

To ensure smooth transportation, please note that the maximum height and width of vehicles we can accommodate are 1.9 meters.

1.4 Validity of Quote

The provided quote is an estimate of the goods and services required for your request. It is important to note that this quote is subject to any future statutory increases. Additionally, it may be affected by force majeure events, prevailing road conditions, and vehicle availability.

1.5 Access Difficulties for Residential Areas

Due to the size of our carriers, there may be instances where accessing certain home addresses in residential areas poses challenges. In such situations, we will work closely with our sales agent and the client to determine an alternative meeting point that is mutually agreeable and convenient. Our aim is to ensure a smooth and successful pickup or delivery of the vehicle.

2. Non-Running Vehicles and Special Requirements

2.1 Non-Running Vehicles Disclaimer

To ensure accurate planning and quotation, please inform us in advance if your vehicle is a non-runner. In case of undeclared non-running vehicles at the point of collection, a penalty will be incurred.

Please provide the following information:

  • Can the vehicle start?
  • Can the vehicle roll and steer?
  • Are the brakes in working order?
  • Are the keys available for collection?
  • Will a forklift be required for loading?

Please note that we cannot transport accident-damaged vehicles, and no refund will be available in such cases.

2.2 Standing Time and Demurrage

To facilitate efficient operations, we allow a maximum of two hours for loading and off-loading. After this initial period, a standing time charge of R500 per hour will be levied for collections and deliveries that exceed the prescribed duration.

2.3 Non-Starter Vehicle on Carrier Disclaimer

In the unlikely event that the vehicle becomes a non-starter while in our carrier due to reasons such as a flat battery, fuel shortage, or special starting requirements, any additional costs incurred to start and off-load the vehicle at the delivery point will be the responsibility of the client.

3. Collection and Delivery

3.1 Failure to Collect

In the event that the vehicle is not ready and available for collection at the agreed time, a futile trip expense of R540 will be incurred. Alternative collection arrangements will be made, and additional costs may apply.

3.2 Failure to Deliver

If the consignee refuses to off-load the vehicle, it will be transported to the nearest Makatu Business Enterprises (Pty) Ltd depot and stored at the owner's expense. The vehicle can be redelivered upon written request, with the resultant costs borne by the principal account.

4. Disclaimer for Loose Items and Insurance Coverage

4.1 Disclaimer for Loose Items

Only items directly associated with the vehicle, such as spare wheels, tools, manuals, and keys, are allowed to be transported. It is essential to remove any personal or loose items from the vehicle, as they will not be covered by our insurance.

4.2 Insurance Coverage for Individual Clients

Our Goods-In-Transit (GIT) insurance covers damage or loss caused by fire, collision, and theft of the vehicle while in our care or within our depot.

However, this policy does not cover dents, scratches, cracks, or any mechanical or electrical issues. Any claims must be submitted within 24 hours of delivery.

4.3 Additional Insurance

While we take every precaution to ensure the safe transportation of your vehicle, please be aware that vehicles are transported at the owner's risk.

5. Payment Terms

5.1 Payment Options

We accept payments via Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) or Cash Deposits.

5.2 Reference and Contact Information

Please use your vehicle registration number and quote number as a reference for all payments. It is important to ensure that your contact details, as well as the collection and delivery addresses, are accurate in your submission.

Proof of payment must be sent along with the signed acceptance of this quote and our terms and conditions.

Makatu Business Enterprises (Pty) Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss including loss of income, business interruption, or loss of vehicle use arising from transport delays or operational circumstances.

Makatu shall not be liable for delays caused by factors beyond its control including road closures, severe weather conditions, labour disruptions, vehicle carrier breakdowns, or force majeure events.
